How Willy got his Wheels is the funny yet warm story about a handicapped Chihuahua who was rescued from a veterinary hospital by a kindly lady and taken home to live with her family of pets. Willy has some funny misadventures. First, they try balloons to help him walk. Next, Willy becomes a terror, racing uncontrolled through the house on a skateboard, scattering the other pets in his wake. Finally, share in Willy's excitment when he gains his independence after he is fitted with a small cart.

Willy is a real-life Chihuahua whose rear legs are crippled and who gets around in a little wheelchair designed just for him. Willy is filled with love and the joy of life. He attracts attention wherever he goes. He's already been on national television (FOX Network's "America's Greatest Pets", FOX Cable News' "Pet News" program, E-Entertainment, and Animal Planet's "Wild Rescues"), but perhaps his crowning moment was when he was awarded a marathon medal for leading a group of children with spinal injuries in the L.A. Marathon.

Intended for ages 5-10, this wonderful book will show children that life is what you make it. Willy never gave up hope when he was abandoned in a veterinary hospital. He found the family that he longed for, and through his owner's care and accidentally humorous attempts to help him, he eventually managed to walk. In doing so, Willy learns what all growing children learn: that being able to do things on your own is one of the best gifts that life has to offer.

Willy and his owner, Deborah, make weekly visits to hospitals to help cheer up children who are handicapped or who are hospitalized. Willy has a zest for life and a happiness about him that is simply contagious. He zips along in his wheelchair and turns peoples heads where ever he goes.
